SELWYN BAPTISTESelwyn Baptiste, pioneer of the Notting Hill Carnival, died on 5 January 2012 following a long battle with cancer. Selwyn moved from Trinidad to the UK in 1960 and soon became involved in the community of Notting Hill. He established the Carnival Development Committee in 1975 which he chaired until 1979. He was passionate about education, the development of the steel pan and children’s participation in the event.
