Trinidad and Tobago and British Gas Commit to future growth.



The Minister of Energy and Energy Affairs the Honourable Kevin Ramnarine and High Commissioner Garvin Nicholas met with Mr. Martin Houston, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director, BG Group, on Thursday 17 November 2011 at BG headquarters in London.

The meeting touched on a number of topics dealing with the gas and energy sector in Trinidad and Tobago.

Also present at the meeting were Mr Derek Hudson, President BGTT, Mr. Selwyn Lashley, Director, LNG & Gas Exports and Mr. Richard Jeremie, Senior Energy Analyst, LNG and Gas Exports Division, Ministry of Energy.

The BGTT is a key gas producer in Trinidad and Tobago and has been operating in the country since 1989. The company has reinforced its position in the country and the rest of the world. BGTT supplies gas to Trinidad and Tobago, Atlantic LNG with around two thirds of production being exported as LNG.  

At the meeting, BGTT reiterated its commitment to its future in Trinidad and Tobago. The natural gas industry will continue to grow and is expected to be the fastest growing fossil fuel for the next decade with exploration success expected. This is definitely good news for Trinidad and Tobago.

Other topics discussed at the meeting included the impact of climate change and its importance on Trinidad and Tobago. BGTT places huge importance on environmental management and working with communities for sustainable planning and development. 

Both Minister Kevin Ramnarine and High Commissioner Garvin Nicholas expressed the desire to work towards a prosperous future using energy efficiently.
