TRINIDADIAN BORN MAKE-UP ARTIST KAREN SALANDY WINS BEAUTY ICON AWARD @ THE BEFFTA AWARDS

The BEFFTA (Black Entertainment Film Fashion Television and Arts) Awards took place on the 22nd of October at The Light House in London. It saw many well deserved talents win numerous awards. Among them was Trinidadian-born Karen Salandy who was awarded with The BEFFTA Beauty Icon award 2011 for her contribution to the industry for over 20 years.

You may know Karen Salandy from the ITV2 programme Models, Misfits and Mayhem as she is currently the exclusive make-up artist to Mr Fierce. Karen’s work has been published (i.e. Elle Magazine, Pride) and seen on LFW catwalks, TV. She is former head make up artists at Yana cosmetics and remains head make up artist for Ms Trinidad and Tobago amongst other beauty pageants. Apart from simply working on beautifying celebrities with her exceptional artistry; Karen worked on the cosmetic lines of Fashion Icon and first African-American Supermodel, businesswoman and author Naomi Sims and the international Italian movie star Isabella Rosilini. Salandy trained with Rosillini in Paris. Rossellini is noted for her 14-year tenure as a Lancôme model, and for her roles in films such as Blue Velvet and Death Becomes Her. Karen was also instrumental to launching their respective cosmetic and beauty lines in the UK training make-up artists across the country.
